Full disclosure: Sli and I are flisties. I think she's Awesome. (She may be aware of my existence. ;-)
Pairings: Fraser/Kowalski, Fraser/Vecchio, Kowalski/Vecchio
Style and strengths: White-hot PORN! OMG! Reading a number of Sli's stories in succession is liable to reduce you to a puddle. Apart from that, you get lovely characterisation, briliant humour, wonderful insights and all-round excellent story-telling. She also writes killer snippets.
Other DS/C6D activity: Sli has been a great asset to the DS and C6D fandom, modding [livejournal.com profile] ds_snippets with [livejournal.com profile] omphale and being a DS Match Team Captain. She also writes in a number of C6D fandoms, usually Callum-related.
Some favourites:
Echo, Fraser/Kowalski. Fraser gets hit over the head. Again.

Cognitive Dissonance, Fraser/Kowalski. Fraser keeps feeling Ray up at inappropriate moments.

I can only. Fraser/Vecchio femslash, written for the first DS Match.

Full disclosure: I'm a long time fan.
Pairings: Fraser/RayK, Fraser/Kowalski/Turnbull
Style and strengths: A prolific author, [livejournal.com profile] viridian5 belongs to the first wave of due South/C6D authors. Her stories involve themes and observations on the show and its characters in ways that still echo to this day. The majority of her fics are written from Ray Kowalski's POV with lots of IC voice. They show us some of the many ways he loves Fraser , his impatience at being partnered with him and some insight as to his loneliness and insecurities. While the majority of the fics are slash or pre-slash with happy endings, there are a few that end on a more ambiguous note: with either Fraser or RayK wanting each other but not acting on their feelings. In addition, [livejournal.com profile] viridian5 is also a fan of AUs; she displays an amazing talent within that genre (especially with the Other Lives, Things Once Linked series.)
Other DS/C6D activity: She's also written several Hard Core Logo (Joe Dick/Billy Tallent) and Twitch City (Newbie/Curtis, Newbie/Curtis/Hope) fics.

Some favourites

The Thrill of the Chase (PG, F/K though it could also be read as pre-slash or even gen, one-shot) It's late and Fraser's being moody. RayK steals the Sacred Stetson. This is a fluffy story that wouldn't be amiss in an actual episode of the series.
An excerpt )

Hungry (mild R, F/K, short) A ficlet set at a White Castle drive-thru in which RayK invents new words, Fraser admonishes Dief for wanting junk food and the boys end up at the world's longest stake out.
An excerpt )

Tea & Insanity (Fraser/Kowalski/Turnbull, NC-17, medium length). The first entry for the "Tea for Three" series, RayK goes out to a tea salon with Fraser and Turbull, is propositioned by both and ends up figuring out a few things about everyone involved. One of the things that make this one of my favourite fics ever is how Fraser, Rayk AND Turbull are on the same level when it comes to both their relationship and the sex. What's even cooler is that Fraser and Turnbull have a lot of the sympatico that was show in the S3 episode "Asylum". Also worth noting is that the sequel (Tea & Diplomacy) has a bratty!Fraser who is both infuriating and very Alpha.
An excerpt )

The Company of Wolves (PG, F/K of a sort, AU, short) Wolf!Fraser meets another one of his kind in this truly original ficlet. What makes it such a treat to read is how Fraser and RayK are very much themselves even though both of them are literal wolves. It also has a beautiful and hopeful ending that brings a smile to my face.
An excerpt )

I Should Be On Television (Twitch City, Newbie/Curtis, NC-17, short) In this metafic, Newbie and Curtis talk about due South, Fraser, the Rays, which one of the Rays Fraser would go to bed with and why. Worth a read because of their observations on the many Diefs throughout the run of the series.

Author: Petra [livejournal.com profile] petronelle (Petra at Dreamwidth)
Website/link to fic: Petrastories (her index on Delicious)
Fanlore page: tbc
First DS fic posted: 2008
Full disclosure: Petra and I are friends and frequent betas and I adore her writing beyond words. I am so far from unbiased, I'm in another country. Possibly another planet. *g*
Pairings: Fraser/Kowalski, Fraser/Victoria. Geoffrey/Darren, Geoffrey/Ellen, Geoffrey/Oliver. Hope/Curtis, Hope/Newbie. Various threesomes.
Style and strengths: Petra writes Due South fic like very few other people have dared, using supernatural, comics, and fantasy tropes as much for humor as psychological horror. She's written crossovers with DC Comics (RayK and Fraser meet Nightwing and a crossdressing undercover Robin in Bludhaven) and Bear & Monette's A Companion to Wolves, where RayK and Fraser are bonded to wolves who battle trolls. She's also played with the sex pollen, de-aged character, and wingfic cliches in ways that are alternately charming and deeply disturbing, and yet always remain true to the characters. Meanwhile, in Slings and Arrows, Petra brings a thorough knowledge of the theater to create backstory. Her pre-series fics are long, often hilarious, sometimes emotionally harrowing, and wonderfully theatrical.
Other DS/C6D activity: Petra has written extensively in Slings and Arrows, as well as some utterly charming Twitch City fic.

Some favorites:
No fretful orchid - (6800 words, adult) the sex pollen fic. excerpt )

Follow without pride - (800 words, adult) wherein Fraser leaves with Victoria. excerpt )

Inclusively players - (15,000 words, adult, Geoffrey/Darren) Geoffrey and Darren codirect and costar in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead while roommates at university. excerpt )

Five ways Hope didn't convince Curtis and Newbie to have a threeway - (500 words, PG-13, Hope/Curtis/Newbie) - adorable OT3 fic. excerpt )

Full disclosure: I suppose I am not completely unbiased, as I found Sionnain's Due South fanfiction before I found anyone else's, discovered that people write Ray/Ray, and now LJ Due South fandom is stuck with me.
Pairings: Sionnain is an enthusiastic Ray/Ray shipper, who has also written Fraser/Vecchio/Kowalski, Fraser/Vecchio, Kowalski/Stella/Vecchio, and Kowalski/Mike Sweeney in her Due South/Durham County crossover stories.
Style and strengths: Sionnain usually writes longer stories, but has also written shorter pieces and drabbles. One of her greatest strengths is in her ability to consistently and accurately capture the voice of the characters she’s writing, both in her use of dialogue and her story exposition. Sionnain’s stories are often sensual and sexual, with optimistic and happy endings, but she doesn’t shy away from writing angst. Sionn has also made vids and fanmixes, and recorded podfics.
Other DS/C6D activity: Sionnain has written widely in the C6 fandoms, including Hard Core Logo, Battlestar Galactica, Durham County, Last Night, Twitch City, Suspicious River, Slings and Arrows, and Flashpoint.

Some favorites:

No Sudden Moves and No Regrets (due South, Vecchio/Kowalski, PG-13, about 3500 words)

This is a sentimental favorite of mine, as it’s the first Ray/Ray story I read. Sionnain balances humor, snark and romance perfectly.

Grocery Lists (due South, Fraser/Vecchio/Kowalski, PG-13, an image-heavy media-fic)

Not only does this piece always make me laugh out loud, it also demonstrates sionnain’s talent for voice, as the story is told entirely (and the characters portrayed completely accurately and cleverly), through a series of scrawled notes.

were no crime (due South, Fraser/Vecchio, R, about 3000 words)

I love this story; how the romance develops so naturally from the friendship between Ray and Fraser, and how the characters are so well-drawn, with Ray’s exasperation and Fraser’s uprightness. I also love how Sionn used setting in this story; Chicago emerges almost as another character.

Unfettered (BSG, Leoben, Kara, PG, about 2000 words)

That missing scene between Kara and Leoben in the series finale? Sionnain wrote it beautifully, capturing two of the show’s most tricky characters and providing some much-needed closure.

And Watch the Clock Ticking Slow (Last Night/Durham County, Patrick Wheeler and Sadie Sweeney, PG-13, about 3600 words)

A brilliant blend of two very different fandoms, and a character study that’s wonderfully bittersweet.

First DS fic posted: 2004
Full disclosure: [livejournal.com profile] pearl_o and I are mutual flisters.
Pairings: F/K, F/K/V, K/V, and a whole assorted bunch of other more uncommon pairings.
Style and strengths: If I had to pick one thing about Pearl's writing that I love, it's her ability to write characters that come across as only human. Yes, they're on TV; yes, they have vastly improbable lives; yes, they are frikkin' gorgeous. But they're still just people, with bad habits and insecurities and normal human desires. And she takes those ordinary humans and just lets beautiful things happen to them.
Other DS/C6D activity: Wilby Wonderful, Hard Core Logo, Men With Brooms, Twitch City, Slings & Arrows.
Some favourites:
I'm Only Gonna Say This Once

I have to say, it took me a while to go for Ray/Ray. What about Fraser, said I, and his tragically perfect Mountieness? What's better to infuriate Ray or Ray than perfection? And annoyance is totally exactly the same as love, right? Right? Yeeeeah!

But I distinctly remember reading this fic when Pearl first wrote it, and saying, Whoa. Whoa. I get it. Because at least for me, the amazing thing about Ray/Ray is that both of them are imperfect, in some similar ways and some completely different ways, and the beauty comes from showing that those imperfections complement each other. This fic does this wonderfully and quietly, with a classic too-tough-for-romance Kowalski voice that makes all the tenderness almost unbearably subtle.

Excerpt )

Your Hands, Clasped

Beautiful, lyrical Fraser POV narration, walking through the steps of trying to start a relationship when the odds are impossible and there is only everything to lose by trying. The whole story has an intimate kind of rhythm to it, with sparse dialogue that packs a punch.

Excerpt )

How Many Ways (and sequel, Merry Bells Keep Ringing)

I love kidfic, and this is one of the best pieces of kidfic I have seen in dS: messy and angry and adorable and all of the things that happen when two people try to incorporate a young human into their lives. Just the right amounts of every ingredient.
