Full disclosure:  We're on each others flists. And of course I'm a fan.
Pairings: Mostly Fraser/Kowalski, with additional pairings.
Style and strengths:  Kink! Bingo! Memes!
An amazingly prolific writer (she'll probably post a new story before you finish the end of this profile), Helens is a welcome addition to DS/C6D. She has written most of her Fraser/Kowalski pieces for kink memes and kink bingo, so many of them are very "I'll be in my bunk" hot. The stories themselves cover a wide range of moods, from romantic first-time, to funny and warm established relationship fics, to dark stories that are as incredible as they are painful to read. What they all have in common is insightful and convincing characterization; her Fraser and Kowalski voices are feel very in-character, even as she's exploring and pushing the boundaries of their relationship.

Other DS/C6D activity: BSG (including this excellent story involving Leoben, Anders and pyramid), Canadian RPF, Gunless, and Wilby Wonderful, plus assorted crossovers with Californication, and Shattered. And even while I was writing this, she posted a fantastic Eastwick/BSG crossover.  She also mods or co-mods a number of comms, including the [community profile] duesouth and the delightful [community profile] dreamsheep.

Some favourites:

Have You Performed At This Establishment Before? (Due South, Fraser/Kowalski, NC-17, 5153 words, written for the duesouth_kink meme)
Undercover!Ray's in a punk rock band, and gets a surprise visitor at one of the concerts. Along with being OMG-HOT, this one has some lovely roleplay banter, great Ray voice, and comes with a nice twist at the end.
Excerpt... )

Branta Canadensis (Due South, Fraser/Kowalski, R, 1565 words) Ray's angry that Stella can remarry while he cannot. Angst, but with a sweet ending.
Excerpt... )

I'll Show You Mine If You Show Me Yours (Due South, F/K, NC-17, 6032 words, written for kink_bingo) The Fight Club story. The writing is so evocative that you feel every bit of the pain, during and after the fight. Her Fraser and Kowalski voices are spot-on here; you get why Fraser would be doing this, and Kowalski's desire to protect (and then help) Fraser makes me want to hug him.
Excerpt... )

A Failure Of Survival Skills (Due South, Fraser/Kowalski, NC-17, 2390 words, written for the duesouth_kink meme) A post-breakup story, but they haven't completely ended it. Serious jealousy, anger and self-destruction here, made more heartbreaking with Vecchio there to watch it happen over and over. The final conversation at the end packs so much in just a few sentences.

New Toys (Due South, Fraser/Kowalski, NC-17, 3626 words, written for kink_bingo) The title pretty much says it all. What I love about this story is how comfortable and confident they are exploring this aspect of their relationship. No angst in this one!

First DS fic posted: 2003
Full disclosure: Heuradys and I have been on each other's flists for a while, even if we don't talk all that often.
Pairings: Turnbull, Turnbull/Kowalski, Turnbull/Kowalski/Fraser, Kowalski/Fraser
Style and strengths: Heuradys loves Turnbull! And her Turnbull is lovable; weird, for sure, but often with (weirder) depths that make you want to hug him, or get Ray and Fraser to hug him. Or else to run far, far away! Whatever your reaction, there's always more to Turnbull than meets the eye. Her stories are usually funny, often punny, always clever. When they're not funny, they're thoughtful and full of restrained emotion. She made wonderful dS icons and along with [livejournal.com profile] daughtershade, compiled Renfield Turnbull: the collected stories.
Other DS/C6D activity: Vids! Lots and lots of vids which are awesome and you should watch them all! Hard Core Logo, Wilby, ReGenesis and more!
Some favourites:
Loss and Adjustment were co-created with Ficklememeer for the [livejournal.com profile] ds_flashfiction Documentation Challenge. Insider knowledge of the insurance industry and a delightful sense of humour make these a giggle to read. Excerpt )
The Sin-Eater F/K Turnbull bakes, Fraser ruminates, Ray kisses. Excerpt )
Triple Double F/K/T Curling metaphors FTW! This is delicious, not merely for the resolution but also for the insight into Turnbull, his awkwardness and longing, his obsession with curling. Excerpt )

Author: Hth/[livejournal.com profile] hth_the_first
Website/link to fic: Tragically, the only thing I could find was an archived version of her site at the Wayback Machine and a few stories at the DSA
First DS fic posted: I have no idea. One of the stories in the DSA is dated 1999, but I think she was probably active before that. Hth herself has this to say on the dS index page for her old site: "I am a veteran of the long-ago Ray Wars, wherein I valiantly defended Callum Keith Rennie's honor and hotness and said many snide things about Vecchio writers, a number of which I have since recanted. I like to think I was also part of the Healing Process (tm), in that I started writing Ray/Ray back when you could carry a lantern day and night through the streets of due South fandom and never find a single soul who would claim to be a Ray/Ray fan. To the best of my knowledge, FuzziCat wrote them first, then Barbara J. Webb, and that was about where I came in."
Full disclosure (your relationship to the author): I don't know Hth at all -- I just fangirl from afar.
Pairings: Fraser/Kowalski, Vecchio/Kowalski
Style and strengths: Hth's stories tend to be shorter and pack a lot of emotional punch. She's great at tilting what we know about canon just a little and then taking full advantage of what might shake out; her Ray/Ray series What It Is I See In You, for example, asks what might have happened if the Rays had met before the start of Season 3, while Fraser was on vacation in Canada. It's not even AU territory (CotW implies they're meeting for the first time, I suppose, but that's pretty easily handwaved), but man, the difference it makes. Her characterizations are insightful and deft. She makes mundane moments speak volumes.
Other DS/C6D activity: None that I'm aware of.
Some favourites:

The Vibe is a painful post-Vegas Vecchio story full of details that kind of sneak up and punch you in the guts.

Quotes )

If Three Kings doesn't make you cry...I don't even know. There's probably something wrong with your soul. It's a tiny little story and the whole thing is a pullquote, so just trust me: go read it.

Close to the Chest is about Ray K's 40th birthday. It's a Ray/Ray story but it's about F/V and F/K, too. It's complicated and achey but somehow not angsty, which is like the world's best magic trick: how did she do that?

Quote )

And finally, Lullabye In Blue, because it's one of my all-time favourite comfortfics, even though it's short. Again, no pullquote because I'd have to pull the whole thing, but essentially, Ray and Ray are headcases for each other. ♥

Okay, your turn -- what are some of your Hth favourites? Her Ray/Ray stuff means a lot to me, but she's written other pairings, too, and all of her stories are fantastic. Tell us about some of them in the comments!
